What's Inside of Nearly Everything

What's Inside of Nearly Everything

What's Inside of Nearly Everything (June 5th & July 17th) – Kids love the mystery and surprise of opening up an iPhone, looking behind the refrigerator, and just searching for what lost treasures or curious features might be behind the walls or under the floors. In this all-time KSL Favorite camp that is even better than the 2014 original smash hit, kids will investigate What's Inside Nearly Everything, as they explore the interior science of electronic devices, mattresses, doughnuts, bathroom fixtures, and how we can design a lunchbox to keep a sandwich chilled for 12 hours. Kids 4-12 yrs old will learn KSL Creative Design as they innovate and design their own devices of the future to solve problems that we may not even seen yet and get a real life picture of what's inside a toilet or how they make that sweet candy at the factory. At KSL we want to enable every child, to design a better future tomorrow and by adding a bit of imagination to figuring out what's inside the tools, devices, and environments that we live in today, we offer perspective for our young innovators that will inspire their long-term success.

Adventures in Outer Space Design

Adventures in Outer Space Design

Adventures in Outer Space Design (June 12th, July 24th) – Kids love space, planets, the sun, rockets, and all things that relate to science fiction, so in this camp, we have crafted an out of this world adventure that combines design with space camp.  Students who have loved our previous Space Camp and Living on Mars Camps, will love the problems that the we are exploring through science.  Kids will explore propulsion systems, surviving the extremes of space, satellite communications, telescope design and terraforming planets to make them inhabitable by humans.  Students will also learn about basic rocket designs as they discover the beauty of Falcon Rockets, landing platforms, and the challenges of passing through atmospheres to land on a planet's surface. Obviously, we can't do space without touching on the necessary ingredients of space travel, so kids should expect to make innovations that solve many of our future's most challenging basic space transport issues during their Adventures in Outer Space Design.

Cities of the Future

Cities of the Future

Cities of the Future: Builder's Paradise (June 19th, July 31st) – Our cities are evolving and we can't wait to see how our kids will innovate the future cities that we live in. Science is all around the city, and in this design and innovation focused camp for kids 4-12, we are exploring science and architecture using real tools to design real light switches, houses, bridges, sky scrapers, schools, and other structures. Kids will experiment with electrical circuits, blueprints, urban planning and plumbing as it relates to creating future cities. There will be an overarching theme of sustainable green design that will be included, so expect that we also will discover experiments in sustainable energy and reuse and reduction of materials. Builder's Paradise is an all-time favorite at KSL as we often construct a city that is made of your child's designs at the end of the week with moving cars, trains, and even planes, which is a highlight of the week. Our teachers will be leading kids through problem solving around congestion, population density, and economics as they envision Cities of The Future as a Builder's Paradise.

Artists are Scientists Too

Artists are Scientists Too

Artists are Scientists Too (June 26th, Aug 7th) –  Our young architects, industrial designers, and artists should know that they can make their own easels, and create their own canvas.  With that in mind, we introduced Artists are Scientists Too to students who love creativity, design, and art at Kids Science Labs, In 2017, we redesigned this camp to make it even more powerful for kids who want to design their own future.  In this camp, kids will be given design challenges from industrial design to choosing materials that are permeable, waterproof, and tough that can meet the needs of people everywhere. This camp will have a definitive focus on artistic innovations in the home, movies, and creating new ideas that solve problems for clothes, travel bags, color spectrum, and the creative arts. Whether your child loves design, art, or engineering solutions that fit the needs of kids, this is the right innovation camp for your child.  Students who have enjoyed Superhero Science and similar Design and Innovation camps to spark the imagination will be right at home in 2017's Artists are Scientists Too.

Jedis vs. Spies

Jedis vs. Spies

Jedis vs. Spies: A Gadget Innovation Camp (July 5th, Aug 14th) – Kids have ideas, often that are inspired by the adventures and stories of their heroes. Whether its Princess Leia leading the rebel alliance in Star Wars, laughing at Gru in Despicable Me, or going on Odd Squad spy adventures, our kids love innovating gadgets to achieve a mission. In this camp, our students will explore everything from light saber design to grappling hooks and secret communication techniques that might be useful to adventures as a Spy. This camp was made for the curious child who has ideas about changing the toys that they use to make them better. We will look at the science behind Star Wars or kid friendly spy movies, and encrypting data to secure communications as a spy.  The overall theme will involve a daily innovation challenge that explores the hands-on science that underpins our mystery and Sci-Fi adventures. If your child likes making gadgets, this camp can't be missed! This is a brand new camp for 2017.

Mixing Madness

Mixing Madness

Mixing Madness: Chemistry for Kids (July 10th Aug 21st) – Kids love pouring, mixing, and combining chemicals to make explosions and observe interesting reactions, so we made a pure mixing camp for kids to explore the chemistry that they see everyday. For every child who wants a chemistry kit and every parent that wants there child to have fun mixing while getting a head start on there chemical engineering career, this camp is here.  Whether its understanding the chemistry behind why pancakes get firm when you heat them, why candy is so tasty, or how you can make orange cheese using basic chemistry, this camp is for the curious mixer who wonders "what will happen if I mix.....?" Inspiration will be taken from the pharmaceutical, biotech, and food industries as we also explore the basic chemistry that kids are exposed to everyday, and learn new techniques for making a volcano more reactive or a darker color for popsicles.   While this is a mixing camp, parents should expect that we will still innovate solutions everyday using KSL Creative Design!

Random Walk Through Science

Random Walk Through Science

A Random Walk Through Science II (Aug 28th) – The summer is almost over so we figured we would end it with a bang, by taking some of the all-time best Kids Science Labs camps and putting them together in one of the most awesome camps ever. Our kids are brilliant, and what they see everyday can sometimes offer us a unique perspective into their beautiful minds. In this camp, we will explore the random questions that kids might ask us, and then design solutions that work. Everything from SuperHero Science, to making the most explosive fuming volcano, to designing rocket ships for Mars Colonization using extra light weight design features, is fair game for this series. Our teachers will look back at the past five years of Summer Camps at KSL and pick some of the best experiments ever. If your child wants to get ready for the academic engagement of school while enjoying time with our KSL teachers, ask interesting questions that make them think critically about the world, or just wants to be in our inspired space, then A Random Walk Through Science II is the right camp to end the summer. Innovation is our specialty at Kids Science Labs and in this week of camp, we will take mixing + building + design and innovation to a whole new level!
