Allergies at Kids Science Labs
Please read our entire Allergy Policy for guidance on lunch and snack at Kids Science Labs camp.
Kids Science Labs makes every effort to try to maintain a peanut and tree-nut free facility to protect our campers with allergies. This page will provide guidance on approved food that you can pack for lunch and snack at camp. This will also provide guidance to parents with children who have allergies.
Below is a good rule of thumb to have in mind when packing your child’s lunch and snack:
NO
outside food with nuts
peanut butter
granola bars, snacks, candy or treats with nuts
packaged foods with labels that read “may contain traces of tree nuts”
YES
all kinds of sandwiches that don’t have nuts
soy butter, sun butter and non-nut butters
packaged foods with labels that do not have nuts listed in the ingredients
packaged foods with labels that read “produced in a facility where tree nuts may be present”
Here are some go-to snacks that are KSL approved:
Fresh Fruit & Veggies
Popcorn (please check label carefully)
Skinny pop
Boom Chicka Pop
Grain bars
Natures bakery
Made Good brand Granola bars (made in a peanut and treenut free facility) Yogurt or Applesauce
GoGo Squeeze
That’s It! Fruit bars
For lunch-time we see that many parents opt to pack sandwiches containing a peanut butter alternative such as sunflower-butter. This is acceptable but please make a note of this in your child’s lunch box and notify staff at drop off as teachers are not able to detect the difference upon sight.
If KSL finds that there is an item in lunch/snack that contains peanut/tree-nut we will have the camper sit outside the classroom with a staff member to eat lunch/snack in a safe area. We will also call and send a note home reminding of allergy policy.
Note for Parents with Children who have allergies
If your child has allergies, please notify us at support@kidssciencelabs.com so we can ensure our programs are able support their safety when they are engaging in hands-on science. Please provide your child’s allergy action plan and have a discussion with our team before dropping off your camper at our facility. While we cannot guarantee that families do not bring items that contain nuts we do make every effort to catch any restricted food items and remove the allergen from the classroom. We also are diligent to check packaging labels on class materials and wherever appropriate, offer alternatives that may work for children with allergies. If your child has a severe allergy outside of peanuts/treenuts we will do what we can to work with you to ensure a safe experience at KSL.
Note: That while we make every attempt to try to maintain a facility that is free of peanuts and tree-nuts, as well as make some accommodations for other severe food allergies, it is entirely the responsibility of our guests to check their food and ensure that any child with a severe food allergy does not share food.
We can relate to children with allergies as the founder of KSL has several children who grew up with severe food allergies. We will be as diligent as we can and ask that all parents help us keep kids safe while enrolled in any of our programs.
